Locust Pump & Well Drilling was established in 1964 by "Red Honeycutt". During the early years, the business operated water metered systems in Stanly, Union and Cabarrus county, providing water for hundreds of people. Wells were furnished for residents of mobile home parks, while each residence was metered for usage. State regulations dictated the amount customers could be charged. The state also required monthly water samples be sent to Raleigh for lab testing, and if the water didn't meet specifications, each customer had to be notified. Coupled with the water systems, pump installation and repairs was part of the business from its inception. Eventually the systems were sold, and the primary focus was pumps.
Having been exposed and interested in the well drilling side of the business for many years, "Red" purchased his first rig in 1983. Shortly afterwards, his oldest son Gary joined the company. Father and son kept the pumps and drilling going with temporary labor, and with wife and mom, Linda managing the office. Eventually "Red" and Linda's other son, Reggie joined the business taking over the pump installation and repairs. The service radius increased as the demand for residential, commercial and agricultural wells grew. As years passed, "Red" stepped more into the role of owner and ambassador, and less of a driller, leaving Gary in control of the rig. In January 2014 "Red" passed away, but Locust Pump & Well Drilling remains  open and ready to serve new and previous customers. Linda, Gary, Reggie, and the other employees, look forward to serving you!
